Artist Statement

I am interested in the dynamic between 'the outward expression of the inward life'. Life's circumstances are powerful; sometimes I find myself investing heavily in the inward life, and then it seems that there must be a corresponding creative outflow. The two facets work in tandem, like riding a bicycle- to go forward, you have to push one pedal and then the other. My work emerges like thoughts; seemingly unrelated images come together to form something new- a visual relating of the changeling nature of an emergent person in a changing world. It seems I'm always stretching in frustration to find the best way to capture this; in oil, watercolour or words. The work becomes an icon, a point of reflection in the space/time dilemma of this reality.
